John Johnson

John Johnson also known as JJ, is a passionate advocate for the performing arts. He is originally from Glenwood, Illinois, and now lives in Clermont, Florida with his girlfriend Tamara and their dog, Sherman.

JJ is a graduate of Marian Catholic High School, a seven-time Bands of America Grand National Champion. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Northern Illinois University, where he was clarinet section leader and drum major. He is also a member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity and currently serves on their Alumni Board of Directors.

JJ's passion for the performing arts began at a young age. After high school, he continued his musical education at Northern Illinois University. He was a member of the NIU Marching Band and the All University Band. After graduating from NIU, JJ began volunteering with Bands of America (BOA). He has been a volunteer for every Orlando Regional since 2000. He currently serves as a Field Manager for BOA, responsible for timing and penalties. He also serves as Event Staff for Drum Corps International (DCI) and Timing and Penalties/Event staff for FFCC. Most recently, JJ was elected to the FFCC Board of Directors.

JJ is the founder of the Sun Devils Drum and Bugle Corps, co-founder of Solaris Performing Arts, and former Executive Director of Nemesis Winds. Under his leadership, the Sun Devils captured four DCA South Class A titles, while Nemesis Winds captured two Independent A titles in 2018 and 2019. JJ has also worked as a visual and woodwind tech at University, Boone, Edgewater, and Poinciana High Schools. Â
In his professional life, JJ works as Vice President of User Experience at a large international legal consulting firm. He has over 25 years of IT leadership experience.
